Young Robins fight back twice to earn point

Altrincham U-19s 2 Chesterfield 2

Match report by Alty player Joel Bailey

Altrincham's Academy team kept the ball really well, but neither side could create any clear opportunities in a slow start to this National League fixture.

Despite Alty looking good in possession, it was Chesterfield who broke the deadlock after 30 minutes when their striker scored with a header from a corner.

Alty continued to have good spells of possession but couldn't come up with an equaliser before half time, as Chesterfield went in a goal to the good at the break.

Alty kicked off at the start of the second half, going long and scoring within 30 seconds as left-back Lucas Edwards put his side back on level terms.

The Robins began to dominate, creating more chances and controlling possession, but they suffered a setback on the hour when a Chesterfield cross slipped through the keeper's hands and the linesman signalled a goal.

Not long after, an Alty throw-in high up the pitch gave striker Alfred igbinake the chance to hold the ball up and turn before crossing low into the box, where Charley Jarrald was waiting at the back post to tap it in and make it 2-2.

Boosted by a second equaliser, Alty finished the game strongly and carved out further chances, but couldn't find a winner.
