Amaar's back! Fit-again youngster marks return from injury with super solo goal
Egerton 2 Alty Reserves 6
AFTER a couple of weeks of inactivity due to the weather, a young Alty side made up for lost time with an emphatic win at Egerton.
From the off, the Robins were on the front foot, creating chances and causing all sorts of problems for our opponents.
The first real opportunity fell to Amaar, whose shot drifted just wide of the post. After that it was one-way traffic, and it came as no surprise when the young Robins finally made the breakthrough, as Amaar skipped past several challenges before calmly slotting home from just inside the area.
This was the fit-again youngster's first start after a lengthy injury absence and, well aware he had only 30 minutes of game time as part of his recovery plan, he wasted no time showing what the club have missed over the past year.
Two further goals followed from George Raftery and Matty Clearly, and Amaar was in the thick of the excellent approach play that helped put Alty into such a commanding position.
Job done, he was substituted shortly afterwards, and his replacement Tayo Tek seemed suitably inspired as he promptly delivered a great through ball for top scorer Adam Lynch to make it 4-0 for an Alty team who were running riot in a one-sided first half.
The second half started fairly slowly for the Robins, with Egerton beginning to have more possession of the ball, but our defence stood firm and dealt with the threats that they were causing.
Against the second half pattern of play, Ben Atkinson powered home a header from a corner to make it 5-0, though Egerton did then pull a goal back following a scramble in the box.
Our final goal came from Colts graduate Charley Jarrald, who marked stepping up to the Reserves with a nicely struck shot into the bottom corner.
Egerton reduced the arrears in the dying moments with a great bit of individual skill from their striker to find the bottom corner, but, all in all, this was a fantastic all-round performance from a young Robins squad.
