Woking next up for Alty - here's your full match preview

JOE WARD sets the scene for Altrincham's latest encounter:
The Robins return to Vanarama National League action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Surrey to take on Woking (3pm kick-off).

There was a welcome and thoroughly-deserved return to winning ways for Alty last Saturday when they delighted a nationwide television audience with an enthralling 2-1 victory over York City.

It wasn’t a perfect start, however, as York took the lead just 15 minutes in. Nonetheless, Phil Parkinson’s side turned it around and secured the much-needed three points with two second-half goals from Elliot Newby and Ryan Colclough.
The win, which the previous couple of performances arguably merited, took the team to 17th place in the league.

However, there’s little time to revel in what was a memorable evening at Moss Lane, as attention must now be turned to high-flyers Woking, who head into Saturday’s game in terrific form in the league.

Despite the Cardinals' recent 2-1 loss to League One side Oxford United in the Emirates FA Cup first round, Alty's hosts go into the game with four straight victories in the National League.

Manager's Views
In a post-match interview with Rob Dawley, manager Phil Parkinson gave his views following the win over York.

Altrincham winger Ryan Colclough caught up with AltyTV after his sponsors' man-of-the-match performance against York.

About The Opposition
Woking are in their fourth season in the National League following promotion in 2019. Manager Darren Sarll joined the Cards in March this year, succeeding the controversial sacking of former manager Alan Dowson.

After Sarll took over, Woking finished last season just two points behind Alty in 15th place. However, the Surrey-based side have enjoyed a brilliant first half to the new campaign and currently sit fourth in the table.

Their recent league results, which culminated in a 1-0 win away win to Boreham Wood last Saturday, conceivably make the home side favourites heading into the game. However, Alty will head down south with a point to prove, as they look to break the sequence of four consecutive league victories.

Firstly, Parkinson’s men will have to contend with an in-form Reece Grego-Cox, who has scored two goals in his last two league games. The 26-year-old winger will aspire to break into double figures in the scoring charts on Saturday, alongside recent signing Rhys Browne.

Browne signed from Wealdstone last month and, like Grego-Cox, sits on nine goals in the league this season, two of which have come in his first five appearances for Woking.

Whichever way you look at it, the match promises to be one not to miss as the Robins look to put further distance themselves and the bottom four and potentially climb as high as 14th place in the table.
