Tough test for in-form Robins as last season's play-off semi-finalists head our way
By Joe Brayne
Altrincham aim to build on a pulsating start to the season as we welcome Boreham Wood to The J.Davidson Stadium this Saturday (3pm kick-off).
While the Hertfordshire side have enjoyed recent success against the Robins, an Alty team who have yet to taste defeat this season will enter the fixture brimming with confidence.
In a back-and-forth contest at the LNER Community Stadium on Tuesday night, the Robins showed their mettle with two come-from-behind goals. Strikes from Chris Conn-Clarke and Matty Kosylo secured a vital point against York City that keeps us well placed in eighth position.
Manager Phil Parkinson deserves credit, too, for a timely double substitution, with Kosylo and Justin Amaluzor going on in the second half and, within a matter of seconds, the latter’s shot setting up Kosylo’s poacher’s finish.
With Parkinson set to meet old friend and Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard on Saturday, the Alty boss laid down a cheeky prediction following the York match.
“I know Luke will be listening to this, so I will be expecting the box to be loaded," he said. "Luke should be managing higher. He has been in this division too long, he’s that good.”
A big shout-out to our dedicated travelling Robins – 214 fans made the midweek trip to York to support the club. Your passion is phenomenal!

About the Opposition
The Wood will be disappointed to have dropped points early in the campaign following Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Solihull Moors.
Our visitors will be eager to build on last season's achievements, having pushed deep into the play-off semi-finals before a 120th-minute winner for Notts County by Jodi Jones ended their fairytale surge towards a Wembley final.
The nucleus of Garrard’s squad remains much the same as last year, with top-scorer Lee Ndlovu and promising midfielder David Agbontohoma leading the charge.
Further midfield experience has arrived through the summer following the acquisitions of Welshman Liam O’Neil from Cambridge United and Colombian Ángelo Balanta from Dagenham & Redbridge.
It has been 32-year-old forward Kwesi Appiah who has made the most immediate impact, however, netting goals against Gateshead and FC Halifax Town.
