Sam Barnes signs for Alty

Sam Barnes becomes the latest addition to Phil Parkinson's squad ahead of tomorrow lunchtime's Enterprise National League clash at Rochdale.

The 24-year-old central defender joins the Robins after his contract with League Two Barrow expired earlier in the summer.

Before his spell in Cumbria, our new man came through the youth ranks at hometown club Blackburn Rovers, making one first team appearance during the 2023/24 season, while also enjoying a loan spell with Marine.

On signing, Sam said: "I'm really pleased to have got this move sorted, Altrincham feels like a great fit. I really like the style of play the manager has implemented and feel I can be a real asset to the team with the way I play.

"After being here for a couple of days already I can see what a well run and close knit club Alty is, from the gaffer, the players, the staff and the board; I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans and helping the team push for promotion."

The manager was as equally enthusiastic about getting Sam signed up.

"I'm really pleased to have got Sam over the line. He's everything we look for in an Altrincham centre back and I believe we're a good fit for him and he's a good fit for ourselves.

"He's had a few injury issues over the last couple of seasons, but they are behind him now. He's played a number of games for the EFL select teams this summer, proving his fitness and he's ready to show everyone that he's back."

Don't forget player sponsorships remain available for 2025/26 from just £80 - click here for all the details.
