Preview | Chester (a)

ALTY will make the short journey across Cheshire on Saturday to face off against Chester in a friendly at the Leap76 Stadium (kick-off 3pm).

With the start of the Vanarama National League campaign just around the corner, the Robins will be looking to increase the intensity of their preparations further as they face another challenging opponent for the division below.

Setting the Scene

The Robins overcame a tough test in midweek to maintain their unbeaten start to pre-season as they drew 1-1 with League Two Salford City.

After conceding an early goal, Justin Amaluzor punished a panicked clearance from Salford goalkeeper Jamie Jones to level the game at 1-1. The game seemed to mellow in the second period, but terrific performances from the youngster Louie Fallon, Joel Bailey and Owen German were positives for Alty to take away from the game.

Our next opponent, Chester, narrowly missed out on reaching the playoffs in the
National League North last campaign with a 10th place finish. The Seals are looking to build on that promising campaign this time round, with one familiar face in midfielder Mitch Hancox recruited by our hosts this off-season.

They’ve endured a difficult start to their pre-season, but the quality of their opposition means that their results don’t necessarily mirror their quality. They’ve suffered defeats against Stockport, Stoke and a Man United XI but recorded wins against Lancaster City and FC Isle of Man.

The Gaffer

"We've had a good set block of minutes for the players over the opening few weeks of pre-season friendlies. Starting with 45 and 45, increasing to 60/30 and 60/30 in our last two games against Warrington and Salford. It'll now be more a block of 70 and 70 for Chester and Curzon Ashton."
