Alty beaten by first half strike at Solihull

Solihull Moors 1 Altrincham 0

Alty were undone by a slow start at Solihull as Non-League Day ended with a narrow Enterprise National League defeat in the West Midlands.

Solihull started the better as the wind swirled around Damson Park, and after a warning shot from Ben Worman was well saved, the hosts took the lead on 10 minutes. Joe Sbarra took advantage of a turnover in possession and finished low beyond Luke Hutchinson from 10 yards.

The goal galvanised Neil Gibson's men, who began to force Moors onto the back foot. A marauding run from Eddy Jones ended with Laurie Walker saving well from the defender's long-range effort, before Lucas Weaver fired just wide after a neat turn on the edge of the box.

Liam Humbles was next to test the reflexes of Walker, as the visitors turned up the pressure. One further chance ahead of half time fell to Weaver, whose low drive from inside the box flew just the wrong side of the upright.

Moors came out with more purpose at the start of the second half and worked Hutchinson within two minutes as Tobi Sho-Silva's close-range shot was superbly saved by the Alty keeper.

At the other end Humbles again made Walker work from long range as the Robins continued to carry a threat when the ball was on the floor. This was aside from when Tylor Golden found himself in on goal as the wind held the ball up in front of Walker, only for his improvised clip to clear both the Solihull stopper's outreached hands and the crossbar.

Dan Sassi and Jake Cooper combined to test Walker yet again from a pinpoint Charlie Kirk free kick as time ticked down, but ultimately the ball just wouldn't fall right for the visitors.
