Alty ready to welcome Bromley in the league following FA Trophy heroics
By Joe Ward
Alty are back in Vanarama National League action this Tuesday evening when we host Bromley at The J.Davidson Stadium (7:45pm kick-off).
The Robins head into the game following an unforgettable victory over Bracknell Town on Saturday, which saw us progress to the quarter-final of the Isuzu FA Trophy for the first since 1995.
Goals from Tyrese Sinclair, Jordan Hulme and Junior Quitirna kept Alty’s Wembley dream very much alive in a hard-fought 3-1 win at The SB Stadium.
Phil Parkinson should have little difficulty concentrating minds on Tuesday’s opponents Bromley, who head into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw at home to Maidenhead United in the league.
The Ravens will likely be well rested and hungry to perform following a 10-day break from action owing to Saturday’s game against FC Halifax Town being postponed due to the Shaymen’s participation in the FA Trophy.
Manager’s Views
Phil Parkinson spoke with Laurence Howarth after Alty's Trophy win at Bracknell.
About The Opposition
Since being appointed as manager back in March 2021, Andy Woodman has led Bromley to a National League play-off. In addition, he brought the first FA Trophy success in the club’s history after beating Wrexham 1-0 in last year's final at Wembley Stadium.
It might have seemed at the beginning of this season that the high expectations Woodman has built for the club could serve as a hindrance. However, he’s managed to govern those expectations relatively well, with the Lillywhites currently sitting in ninth place, just two points off the play-offs.
Alty will certainly be tested this Tuesday, particularly in the air, which has brought the likes of Omar Sowunmi and Michael Cheek plenty of joy in front of goal so far this season.
Cheek, who is currently joint-top in Bromley’s scoring charts with eight goals, heads into the game in good form, having scored three in his last four appearances.
In our last meeting earlier this season, Alty were forced to play the remaining half an hour of that sweltering August fixture with our skipper Jordan Hulme in net after Matt Gould was forced off with a concussion.
The game ended in a goalless draw, a result our visitors have been all-too-familiar with recently, having shared the spoils in all four of their last league games. However, the Ravens will surely be looking to break that spell on Tuesday night in what promises to be a thrilling spectacle at The J.Davidson Stadium.
