Alty aiming to leave no stone unturned as we head south to Grosvenor Vale

By Joe Ward

Alty will hit the road once again in the Vanarama National League this Saturday when we head to Ruislip to face Wealdstone (3pm kick-off).

The Robins head into the game unbeaten in our last four league fixtures, and it looked like being a fourth straight win at Yeovil Town on Tuesday night after James Jones headed us into a first-half lead.

But the hosts fought back to level matters and force a 1-1 draw after converting a 78th-minute penalty awarded for handball by goalscorer Jones, who was instantly shown a red card.

Phil Parkinson must now refocus minds as we prepare for the second of six consecutive away trips, this time at Grosvenor Vale.

The Stones host Saturday’s match-up on the back of a heavy 5-0 defeat away to FC Halifax Town, leaving us both level on points in the league table.

About The Opposition

Wealdstone will be desperate to return to winning ways this weekend as they head into the clash without a victory in their last three league games.

However, Stuart Maynard’s men will be quietly confident given Alty’s recent form at Grosvenor Vale, which has seen the hosts get the better of us by one goal to nil in both of our last two visits.

The Royals currently sit 12th in the league table, after picking up 46 points from 33 league games, meaning a win on Saturday would see them leapfrog the Robins and edge ever closer to a play-off position.

Despite leaving Wealdstone back in October to join Woking, winger Rhys Browne remains the club’s top goalscorer this season. Nevertheless, our opponents have been impressive at the back this term and are in search of their ninth clean sheet of the season.

An example of their defensive resilience was on show during the Stones’ visit to The J.Davidson Stadium earlier this season. A 47th-minute goal from Olufela Olomola was enough to see off Alty, who despite our best efforts, were made to pay for missed opportunities.
