Altrincham v York City match preview

Words by Joe Ward

Alty are back at The J.Davidson Stadium on Saturday when we face York City in the Vanarama National League (5.20pm kick-off).

The Robins will be looking to snap back following Tuesdays 2-0 defeat to Barnet with some much needed points on Saturday as we welcome York City to our final of three consecutive home games in the league.

Despite the disappointing result, manager Phil Parkinson can take some real positives from our last game. Most of all, as Isaac Marriott returned from injury with a solid first appearance of the season, strengthening Alty’s squad depth.

Additionally, debutants Elliot Newby and Connor Jennings, who both joined from Stockport County on loan last week, put in a couple of decent displays which will surely of filled the gaffer with confidence going into Saturday.

Our visitors come into the clash in poor form, without a win in five league games. The Minstermen drew their last game 1-1 away from home at Gateshead but will be hoping to change their fortune in a visit to Moss Lane.

Managers Views

In a post-match interview with AltyTV, manager Phil Parkinson gave his views following our 2-0 defeat at home to Barnet on Tuesday night.

About The Opposition

York were one of five newcomers to the National League this season following promotion back from the National League North. They did so with a 2-0 victory over Boston United in the play-off final.

Manager John Askey led York to promotion in his first season as Head Coach after taking up the role in November 2021. So far this season, Askey and his lads have had a decent return to the National League, currently sitting in 11th-place.

However, despite enjoying a successful start to the campaign, the Minstermen have somewhat dropped off as of late, picking up just three points in their last five league games.

Nonetheless, Altrincham will need to keep their wits about them as striker Lenell John-Lewis looks to break into double figures for the season in front of goal. The 33-year-old, who joined York City from Grimbsy Town in the summer, has notched eight goals so far this term and has been the only consistent scorer for the Minstermen.

Winger Alex Hurst returned from suspension in their last match, and it would seem as though city’s other wide man Nathan Thomas is still out with a hamstring injury.

As both sides look to return to winning ways, it promises to be a match not to miss as Alty take on York City this Saturday in a televised clash under the lights.
