Alty's youngsters suffered a cruel FA Youth Cup exit on penalties to Radcliffe after an often cagey affair at the Neuven Stadium.

The first half saw plenty of forward play from both teams, albeit with few clear cut chances.

Noah Lavin's close-range flick off a Chris Antoniades cross was as close as Alty came, while at the other end Max Beddow had to be at his sharpest to deny the onrushing Diaz Adesina a clear strike at goal.

The dangerous Wilson Edeoga fired over just before the break as the hosts started to push on and cause the young Robins some problems, but coming out for the second half it was Alty who took control.

Kian Leckey headed a corner just over and Jacob Martin tested the concentration of Trenton Lisett, as did substitute Josh Obamwonyi soon after entering the game.

The game became very cagey as the action moved closer towards penalties. Home skipper Dylan Halford tried his luck from range, and a succession of Boro corners put Alty under some pressure late on, but ultimately it was spot kicks that were needed to separate the teams.

After Alty took a slender lead via a Max Beddow save from Ali Al Hasnawi, the hosts rallied with Lisett saving from Henry Watts and Josh Obamwonyi, before Furmus Mendy hit the top corner of Beddow's net in sudden death to seal his side's passage to round one.
