Date set for Alty legend's testimonial!

As one of the great servants of Altrincham's recent history, Jake Moult gave the club a decade of sterling service, driving the team on from the heart of midfield year in, year out.

So, it only seems right that the club should give him something back in return, and we are delighted to announce that a date has now been set aside for that reciprocal gesture to be made.

When Jake bade an emotional farewell to The J.Davidson Stadium, along with six of his team-mates, after the final Vanarama National League fixture of last season, it was decided his decade of devotion should be marked with a testimonial match in his honour.

After going public with the decision at the end-of-season awards and deliberating over the best date for packing our Moss Lane ground, the club can now confirm that Sunday, April 30th has been selected for this special occasion, a real Memory Lane experience for Robins fans, with revered names from the recent and not-so-recent past turning out in tribute to one of the great Alty careers.

Kicking off at 1pm, the match will be an Altrincham XI versus a Jake Moult XI, and given our former captain's competitive nature, bragging rights are unlikely to be yielded easily on an afternoon that will be high on nostalgia and emotion, as supporters again have the chance to say thanks and goodbye to a player who gave his all in every one of his 400-plus Robins appearances.

Tickets can be purchased in advance, costing just £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s, and names of those recruited to the ranks of Jake's invitation team and Alty's will be brought to you nearer the time.

A rare constant through a decade of change and fluctuating fortunes, Jake began his Alty era under Lee Sinnott on a 93-day loan from Alfreton Town in August 2012 and made his debut later that month away to Vauxhall Motors.

His combative qualities earned him a permanent move to the Robins a couple of months later, in November, and he not only wore the captain's armband with distinction whenever called upon, he stepped into the breach along with Shaun Densmore and Alan Goodall to try and steady a badly listing ship, in the wake of Neil Young's resignation as manager in 2016.

It was to prove a brief spell as joint-caretaker-manager, with Jim Harvey taking the reins soon after, but it underlined his commitment to the cause and willingness to tackle any challenge put before him for the good of the club.

When Phil Parkinson and Neil Sorvel became one of the most important managerial appointments Altrincham have made, with the team in freefall in 2017, they had no hesitation turning to Jake as their on-field general.

He remained in the role of skipper from then on, leading the team to two promotions and only bringing the curtain down on a glittering Alty career when the club took the plunge and went full-time last summer, bowing out against Yeovil Town at The J.Davidson on Sunday, May 15th last year, with a record of 416 starting appearances plus 36 as substitute and 45 goals scored.

What an afternoon that was - let's relive it again when Jake's XI take on an Alty XI at Moss Lane on Sunday, April 30th, kicking off at 1pm. Don't forget to look out for some of the names that are currently being lined up here on the club's website and our social media channels. In the meantime, why not book your place at what is sure to be a memorable afternoon by buying your tickets here.
