Chorley 7-1 Altrincham
Altrinchams’ FA Youth Cup campaign came to an end on Tuesday evening as they suffered a 7-1 defeat to Chorley at Victory Park.
The hosts took the lead in the seventh minute through Joe Redmayne, but the Robins responded with an equaliser in the 23rd minute. Kian Mattison played Lucas Bagley through on goal, who fired a left-footed shot right past Chorley goalkeeper Lucas Simm to make it 1-1.
Chorley had a further opportunity to threaten when Redmayne skipped around the Altrincham goalkeeper, who hesitated before reaching for the ball at the edge of the box. However, the referee ultimately chose to award a goal kick.
The Magpies regained the advantage in the 44th minute through a fantastic left-footed strike from Alfie Howse just before half-time, putting the home team in front with a 2-1 lead as they headed into the break.
Shortly after the restart, Chorley extended their margin with Zak Whalley finding the net in the 51st minute. Sam Smith managed to head the ball straight into the back of the net, adding a fourth six minutes later to put Chorley in control of the tie.
Howse raced onto an Altrincham back pass and managed to find the back of the empty net, scoring his second of the evening in the 71st minute, before Harry Clarke made it 6-1 in the 79th minute, moments after coming off the bench. Whalley then cut inside onto his right foot and completed his brace in the 83rd minute to round off the scoring at Victory Park.
In the second half, Chorley’s Smith received a yellow card in the 50th minute, while Altrincham’s task became increasingly difficult as the game progressed, with a booking in the 74th minute for Kian Mattison, before teammate Josh Obamwoyni was shown a yellow card in the 88th minute.
Despite Bagley’s first-half equaliser, Chorley’s second-half attacking display proved decisive as they secured a 7-1 victory to progress to the first round of the FA Youth Cup.
