Bromley vs Altrincham match preview

Alty face Bromley at Hayes Lane in our first away fixture of the 2022/23 Vanarama National League on Saturday (3pm kick-off) in what are expected to be soaring temperatures.

Phil Parkinson’s men head down south following a 1-1 draw at home to Maidstone United in Alty’s first competitive match of our new full-time era.

Despite the frustration of several key moments going against the Robins, the lads will certainly take plenty of positives into our second game of the season following some impressive debuts and a performance which ultimately deserved all three points.

Bromley head into Saturday off the back of a 3-2 loss away to Wealdstone, despite dominating the play for long spells throughout the game.

From The Dressing Room

In a post-match interview with AltyTV, Vice-Captain Toby Mullarkey gave his views following our 1-1 draw against Maidstone United and what it means heading into the rest of the season.

About The Opposition

Bromley, under the management of Andy Woodman since March 2021, have been in and around the promotion battle over the last couple of seasons, being knocked out of the play-off quarter final by Hartlepool in the 2020/21 campaign and finishing in 10th last season; just seven points off a play-off position.

Woodman impressively guided the Ravens to silverware last season, beating Wrexham 1-0 in the final of the FA trophy to win the competition for the first time in the club’s history.

Goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook, who re-joined the club this summer from Dartford, had a good performance in their opening game, despite conceding three, by making some excellent stops to keep Bromley in the match till late on.

Two headed goals in the first half from Omar Sowunmi and Michael Cheek put them 2-1 up just before the break. However, like Alty, a controversial penalty decision ended up dictating the final 30 minutes as they conceded twice to lose 3-2 to Wealdstone.

Goal scorer Omar Sowunmi, who spent pre-season recovering from injury, will look to haunt Alty again as the giant defender scored the only goal to beat us 1-0 at the J.Davidson Stadium last season. Additionally, the Robins drew 1-1 in our last trip to Hayes Lane last season only 91 days ago.

It is Michael Cheek that remains Bromley’s main goal threat as the striker hit an impressive 17 goals last term to finish 10th in the scoring charts and he will be looking to build a fearsome strike partnership with summer signing Adam Marriott.
