Robins on the road to Woking - here's your match preview

By Joe Brayne

Altrincham embark on their inaugural away journey of the 2023-24 Vanarama National League season as they face Woking at The Laithwaite Community Stadium this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

In the league opener against Dagenham & Redbridge, Alty encountered the new

regulations governing added time, with the visitors' 98th-minute equaliser earning them a 1-1 draw.

Chris Conn-Clarke’s mazy dribble and finish in the 80th minute appeared to have been the decisive blow in the cagey affair, but Harry Phipps' looping header dashed the hopes of the vocal Robins supporters, leaving the points shared.

Despite the late setback, Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson was content with the team's display, saying: “I’m really pleased that we’ve shown some real good qualities today.

“Particularly when you consider pretty much half of the squad is new. The pre-season that they’ve put in has been fantastic, and it’s just such a shame that we couldn’t get the result our performance deserved.”

About the Opposition

A magnificent display from Woking goalkeeper Will Jaaskelainen helped our hosts secure a point in their opening match against newly-promoted Kidderminster Harriers.

Torrential rain limited the Cardinals' attacking flair while manager Darren Sarll will have held his breath as a long-shot from Harriers’ Ashley Hemmings thundered against the crossbar during stoppage time.

With a much more pleasant forecast of 22°C for tomorrow's showdown, the hosts will be keen to showcase their fluid attacking prowess.

Woking boasts a formidable attacking trio in Rhys Browne, Pádraig Amond and Reece Grego-Cox, who collectively notched an impressive 34 goals last season.
