In-form marksman Regan Linney has given Altrincham a major boost by accepting a new deal to remain at The J.Davidson Stadium.

Fresh from helping the Robins make it two wins in four days with a 2-1 success at Tamworth on Saturday, the Alty danger man has put pen to paper on a new extended contract with the club, much to the delight of manager Phil Parkinson.

"I'm really pleased Regan has decided to extend his contract with us," said the gaffer. "He is a proven goalscorer at this level, and I feel we are getting him in his prime, at a time where he is only going to get even stronger and score even more goals for Altrincham."

It was widely regarded as a coup for Alty when Regan was snapped up for an undisclosed fee in February last year after establishing himself as a consistently clinical finisher over the course of four prolific seasons at FC United of Manchester.

He took the challenge of graduating to the Vanarama National League seamlessly in his stride, hitting the ground running in Alty colours and endearing himself to Robins fans with a goalscoring prowess that was evident from the start.

He was on a run of four goals from six appearances, going into Saturday's win at Tamworth, and whether he's spearheading the attack or operating on the left flank, his direct style has repeatedly troubled opposing defences.

Now he has thrown his weight behind Alty's quest to close the  gap on the play-off places by signing a contract extension in a show of faith for the way the Robins are continuing to flourish under Phil and Neil.

"I'm delighted to have got this sorted out and to be able to concentrate on carrying on doing my best for the club," he said.

"Now the aim has to be to keep improving and build on what we did last season, and I'll be doing all I can to keep contributing. All the lads are feeling positive about that - we all want to make this another special season."
