Loan watch - Hanley in a jam until Eden rifles leveller!
ROUND-UP BY JOHN EDWARDS
Hanley Town 2 Kidsgrove Athletic 2
Eden Bailey was restored to Hanley Town's starting line-up and made the most of it as he rescued a valuable Pitching In Northern Premier League West Division point for his side with a late equaliser against local rivals Kidsgrove.
Lowly Hanley looked to be heading for defeat until Alty frontrunner Eden popped up with an 85th-minute leveller that earned him praise aplenty from a team-mate and his manager Ryan Shotton.
The home side, second from bottom in the West Division but by no means cut adrift, found themselves trailing twice in the first half and were still 2-1 behind with the clock ticking down.
But they added a crucial point to their survival bid when Eden seized on a flick-on from a team-mate and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the Kidsgrove net to spark wild celebrations in an elated and relieved home camp.
Team-mate Matty Bell described it as 'a great goal that should give Eden confidence', while Hanley player-boss Shotton, who had a highly successful loan spell at Alty in his Stoke City days 15 years ago, added:
'I'm buzzing for Eden. He has been working hard, and when I had a word with him in training during the week, I told him he deserved his chance in the starting line-up. I'm so pleased he's grabbed it with both hands with a great goal, smashing it into the top corner like that.'
Buxton 2 AFC Fylde 2 (Tuesday)
Brad Jackson continues to make a favourable impression on loan at a Buxton side who are going great guns in the Vanarama National League North.
After going behind in only the fifth minute, Buxton almost equalised with their first on-target effort, a 28th-minute shot by Brad that was saved.
The Bucks were level before half-time, but, after having penalty appeals waved away following good work by Brad in the 46th minute, they fell behind again with just over 20 minutes left.
In a dramatic finale, the home side were awarded a spot-kick that substitute Diego De Girolamo coolly slotted past the keeper in the fifth and final minute of added time to make it all-square.
Banbury United 1 Buxton 3 (Saturday)
Brad was part of an unchanged starting line-up, as in-form Buxton extended their unbeaten run to 11 games.
Already leading in the fifth minute, Buxton made it 2-0 in the 39th minute when Brad advanced down the right flank and crossed from the bye-line for Joe Ackroyd to finish past the keeper.
It was job done when the lead was further stretched just before half-time, and though Banbury converted a 90th-minute penalty to deny the visitors a clean sheet, this was an emphatic victory for Buxton, with Brad contributing another impressive 90 minutes.
AFC Fylde 3 Darlington 2
Alty centre-back Jake Cooper got another useful 90 minutes under his belt, but there was disappointment for Darlington in this clash of the National League North promotion chasers as Fylde twice came from behind to take the points.
Cheadle Town 3 Alsager Town 0
Ryan Forde was in goal for Alsager Town and Dion Siboko Bohe started on the wing, with striker Matty Sumner on the bench. Matty went on as a half-time substitute for Dion, but the Alty contingent couldn't prevent Alsager from going down to a heavy defeat in the North West Counties League Division One South.
Widnes 3 City of Liverpool 0
Widnes were already 3-0 up in this NPL West Division clash when young Alty frontrunner Sharif Deans went on as a 73rd-minute substitute, Michael Ellison's side significantly easing any relegation worries.
*Joe Cooney was an unused substitute for Northwich Vics in their 1-1 draw with FC Isle of Man, while Owen German went on for the last 20 minutes in Irlam's 4-2 defeat at Longridge Town. Harlan Rodgers-Morris, Ryan Morton and Jayden Matthew all played for Alty Reserves on Saturday. Zak Goodson's loan spell at Boston United has ended, and he was on the bench for Alty at York City on Saturday.
