Harry cracker rounds off five-star show by young Robins

Burnley 2 Altrincham 5

Match report by Alty player Nathan Talyor

Altrincham's youngsters had five different names on the scoresheet as they registered an emphatic victory in a National Youth League fixture that was all-square at half-time.

An early Alty attack ended with an effort that was hit just over the crossbar. Set up in the mid-block, the Robins denied Burnley any space and were able to win the ball back in good areas.

On the break once more, they moved the ball well in the final third, where a cross into the box was met by Kian Gonzales, who put the chance away to make it 1-0.

Burnley played through the thirds and hit a ball over the top, and a cross into the striker led to an equaliser.

A great save by the Burnley keeper from an Alty shot kept the score level, but the Robins were in front again when, following a counter-attack, Noah Lavin had the ball at his feet and looked up to guide the ball into the goal.

But Burnley came back again on the counter, and a pass by their left winger into a dangerous area enabled them to go in on level terms at half-time.

Both teams were playing some good football as the second half got underway, but it was Alty who managed to break through, as Jacob Martin took the ball past a defender and the keeper and slotted it home.

Alty were managing to keep possession very well, and were getting into dangerous areas, and minutes later the ball found Callum McCormack, whose lovely guided shot into the corner of the net gave the young Robins a 4-2 lead.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Burnley were playing some nice football, but when they worked it wide, Alty's Harry St Romaine saw his chance to pick the ball up off their winger and take it down the line.

Flicking it over the Burnley left-back, Harry now found himself on the edge of the area, and as the ball dropped down, he struck it on the volley with a great connection, smashing it into the net for a spectacular goal that made it 5-2.

Burnley continued to play some nice football and come close to scoring again, only to be denied by Charlie Noble in the Alty goal.
