Alty held but maintain unbeaten start to league campaign

Liverpool FEFA 0 Altrincham 0

Match report by Alty player Harley Renshaw

The Robins travelled to Merseyside for this National Youth League fixture at Melwood, sporting their bright blue away shirts.

Early on, Altrincham were on the front foot, with Watts playing a delightful ball into Renshaw, who half-turned into the middle of the pitch and played a curved through ball into the number nine Martin

He found himself in a one-on-one with the keeper, but the Liverpool number one was able to make the save.

Altrincham were controlling possession in the first half, and they created further chances but couldn’t find the clinical finish.

Great play from Hill and Gonzales led to another opportunity for the Robins, as they combined on the left-hand side.

Hill crossed to Gonzales, but his low shot was saved by the Liverpool goalkeeper. Liverpool found their way into the Alty area, where a volley from the number eight flew over the bar.

After continuous fouls, the game was getting more aggressive but half-time arrived with the game still goalless.

The second half kicked off, and Altrincham were pressing higher, with Jarrald being direct. He ran at his full-back and put a cross into the six-yard box, which the keeper just about blocked from a Gonzales tap-in.

Altrincham started the second half on top and were moving the ball well. At the 65-minute mark, Altrincham made changes, with Mannion replacing Renshaw and Antoniades replacing Hill. In addition, Lavin replaced Martin and Knowles went on for Jarrald.

Liverpool started gaining confidence, with chances coming one after another, which required Noble to make unbelievable saves to safeguard his side's clean sheet.

The end of the game was approaching, but there was another great chance for the Robins, as the ball reached Antoniades on the left wing.

His cross to Lavin in the box was allowed to travel on to Gonzales, who got under the ball and hit it above the crossbar.

At the other end, Noble had to make another save to deny Liverpool as full time approached.

Overall, Altrincham could count themselves unlucky not to earn all three points with the chances created, but ti was a good performance from the young Academy side, who remain undefeated in the league.
