Robins' road to Wembley continues with quarter-final tie against York

By Joe Ward

It's a break from Vanarama National League action for Alty on Saturday as we take on York City in the quarter-final of the Isuzu FA Trophy (3pm kick-off).

Alty will be looking to bounce back at the LNER Community Stadium this weekend following a 2-0 defeat against Scunthorpe United in the National League on Tuesday night.

York City, on the other hand, head into the tie on the back of a convincing 3-0 away victory over Bromley, with Lenell John-Lewis, Ryan Fallowfield and Luke James on the scoresheet for the Minstermen.

The Robins have already had some gripping Trophy tussles to tee up Saturday's fixture, including one with National League leaders Wrexham, when we held our nerve to see off last year's finalists 4-3 on penalties.

Manager's Views

Phil Parkinson spoke with Brian Flynn following Altrincham's 2-0 defeat at Scunthorpe United.

About The Opposition

York City had a penalty shoot-out of their own during this season's competition, when they knocked out National League South side Chelmsford City in the fourth round.

Before that came a resounding 5-0 victory over sixth-tier Blyth Spartans. And in the last round, beat fellow National League side Southend United 2-0 away from home.

Altrincham are seven points above Saturday's hosts in the league, with Mikey Morton's side currently sitting 17th in the table.

Although the Robins head into the game having won all four of our last away fixtures against the Minstermen, this weekend will be the club's maiden voyage to the LNER Community Stadium, which York only moved into back in January 2021.

In the league, our hosts claim the fifth-worst home record, capturing only 20 of their 39 points at their own ground.

Alty came from behind to beat York in our last meeting. Second-half goals from Elliot Newby and Ryan Colclough secured the Robins all three points, despite the Minstermen taking an early lead through Maxim Kouogun.

However, a different competition breeds different threats and Lenell John-Lewis will certainly be one Alty should look out for.

The centre-forward tops our hosts' scoring charts, with 12 goals in all competitions, and heads into the game having scored two in his last four games.
