Alty On The Comeback To Claim Three Points Away

Yeovil Town 1 Altrincham 2

Grit and determination were in abundance as Altrincham came from behind in torrential conditions to win 2-1 at Huish Park against high flyers Yeovil Town.

It was an even start to the encounter, though it was the Robins who were more creative, though the only half-chance came through Leo Farrell, whose shot at a narrow angle went straight into the arms of Joe Barker.

The hosts struck first as Johl Powell was too strong for Otis Khan inside the penalty area, before producing a good finish into the bottom right corner.

Conditions limited the amount of opportunities either side could manifest in the first 45 minutes, but around the half-hour mark Aidan Barlow showed his creativity on two occasions. His ball found Matty Kosylo on the right, whose fizzing effort was palmed away by Barker.

The resulting corner was cleared to Barlow, who launched it to the back post, where Tom Crawford's header was cleared off the goalline.

It was the head of Crawford that came closest for the Robins on the stroke of half time, when his diving attempt was pushed behind for a corner.

Ryan Jones had a gilt-edged chance to double the advantage, latching onto Powell's ball from the left flank, but putting it wide from 10 yards.

Harry Isted made a couple of decent stops in the first half, including an unconventional, recovery save after giving away the ball, though it was in the second 45 minutes that the shot stopper kept his side in the game, with two excellent reflex saves against Brett McGavin around the hour mark.

The equaliser came after 69 minutes, through terrific play between Crawford and Farrell down the right wing. The latter played a perfect ball across the penalty area to Charlie Kirk at the back post, who tapped home from close range.

10 minutes later, Kristian Dennis, who replaced Farrell due to an injury picked up in the buildup to the goal, unleashed an audacious effort from 25-yards flying toward the top left corner which required diversion by Barker.

Dennis found the winner in the 85 minute, as academy graduate Remi Raymond's cross hung in the wind underneath the crossbar. The number 9 was on hand to bundle the ball home, before running in jubilation the 48 Altrincham fans by the corner flag.

The Robins had to hang on for eight minutes of injury time, which turned into more like 10 minutes as multiple stoppages were required during a very scrappy end period.

Yeovil's chances of finding an equaliser were significantly reduced when Lucas Weaver skipped past Ben Radcliffe, who as last man, had no choice but to drag the striker down on the halfway line, receiving a red card for his challenge.
