The NL Cup reaches the last eight stage

Alty face two knockout competition quarter-finals this week, beginning on Tuesday night with the National League Cup last eight clash with Newcastle United u21s at The J.Davidson Stadium.

How we got here

Qualification for the last eight was confirmed after Wolves' penalty shootout win at Rochdale earlier in February eliminated both clubs, allowing Alty to take second place behind an unbeaten Man Utd u21s.

Wins against Blackburn Rovers (on penalties), Stoke City and Wolves gave Phil Parkinson's men eight points from the four group games, with a competition-leading average attendance at The J.Davidson Stadium of over 1,500.

The rest of the quarter-final line-up sees Sutton United take on Manchester United u21s also on Tuesday night, with Aldershot Town against Leeds United u21s and Braintree Town's tie with Brighton & Hove Albion u21s both scheduled for Tuesday, March 11th.

The thoughts of Phil Parkinson

"It's sometimes nice to come away from the league and there's some of our lads who we can get up to speed on Tuesday. We've had a lot of games with a lot of travel and some players need a rest, but we can't rest everyone.

"We've got lads chomping at the bit to play, lads who need minutes and lads who need to impress and stake a claim for a spot in the side heading into Saturday at Rochdale in the FA Trophy."
