Alty make a first visit to the Jakemans Community Stadium on Saturday (3pm) as the Vanarama National League play-off hunt continues with a clash against relegation-threatened Boston United.

Setting the Scene

After a seven-game winless run stretching back to the start of March, Altrincham returned to winning ways with a dramatic late victory against Yeovil Town last time out.

Tylor Golden opened the scoring in the first half for Alty, but after Frankie Terry immediately got the visitors back level, The J. Davidson Stadium erupted with elation and relief as Lewis Baines scored a magnificent late goal to seal a 2-1 win.

The three points earned last week put Alty right back into the play-off mix. With 60 points from our 41 games, we sit just one place and one point behind the top seven. Our hosts at the weekend are 20th, three points above the relegation zone.

They may be deep into a gruelling scrap for survival, but Boston’s league position is not a reflection of their current form and ability. The Pilgrims have won six of their previous eight league games, and half of their total points tally has been won since the beginning of March.

They may have only won four games at home this season, but they will provide a huge test for the travelling Alty squad.

The thoughts of Phil Parkinson

“We’ve got five games to go, that’s what we want. Every fan up and down the country doesn’t want their season to fizzle out and that’s what I’ve been saying, even when we’ve been losing, that’s the bit we won’t do.

"We won’t allow that to happen, we’ll work exceptionally hard, and when you work hard, you normally get the results.”

Earlier this season

September 2024 – It was a thrilling encounter in the last meeting between these two sides, with four goals and a red card all coming in the second half of a 2-2 draw at The J.Davidson Stadium.

Alex Newby and Regan Linney gave Alty a 2-0 lead, but two late goals from Boston ensured the points were shared.
