Altrincham will aim to replicate Saturday's six-goal spectacle when we travel to York Road this Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off) to take on Maidenhead United in the Vanarama National League.

The weekend’s attacking masterclass showcased a buoyant Robins delivering one of the most devastating displays at The J. Davidson Stadium in recent memory.

With braces from Chris Conn-Clarke and Lewis Baines, along with goals from Alex Newby and Justin Donawa, Alty convincingly defeated an Ebbsfleet side that had  previously conceded just 14 times in the league.

Equally important were the slick reflexes of Alty keeper Ethan Ross. The Stockport County loanee once again shone between the sticks, making a stunning penalty save late in the second half.

Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson is eager to extend his team’s run of form against a formidable Maidenhead United side that kept a clean sheet against the Robins at York Road last season.

“It is always a difficult place to go,” he said. “I think we had 79% possession last year and still managed to lose. We had a few different problems (on the day) but ultimately, we were sucker-punched by ‘gift goals’ – goals that we gave to teams.

“I feel we are past that now. We are a lot more resilient and you are going to have to be when you go to Maidenhead, particularly midweek.”

About the Opposition

After a strong start to the 2023-24 campaign with two wins and a draw in their first four matches, the Magpies, who narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of last season, have hit a rough patch.

After enduring a three-match streak of draws, Maidenhead have fallen to four consecutive losses.

Perhaps more concerning for Alan Devonshire’s side is their goal-scoring drought that has seen them score just one goal in their last seven games.

One bright spot for our hosts, however, has been the continued development of 21-year-old midfielder Reece Smith. A product of the Maidenhead Academy, Smith scored a goal in the club's 3-2 defeat to Altrincham last season and currently leads the way this year with two goals.

Another player to watch out for is former Republic of Ireland Youth international Kane Ferdinand. The defender has played every minute for the Magpies this season and brings Championship-level experience to their line-up.
