ALTY travel to the outskirts of London for the first away game of the 2024/25 Vanarama National League campaign as we face Sutton United at the VBS Community Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Setting the Scene

The Robins overcame a difficult test against Woking to begin the season, claiming
the club’s first opening-day home win since 2006/07.

After an early red card for Eddy Jones, a beautiful, long-range effort from Tylor
Golden proved to be enough for Alty, seeing off a threatening Woking side. The
performance was notably full of resilience and determination; Phil Parkinson will take plenty of positives into our challenging next fixture.

Sutton’s first game in the Vanarama National League since their relegation from
League Two ended in a draw against Tamworth. A dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from Josh Coley handed the U’s a point, after conceding only seven minutes earlier.

Led by Steve Morison, Sutton will be looking to record their first win of the season and present a very tough task to the Robins.

The Gaffer

"Not having a midweek game straight away was pretty vital for this week, heading towards two away games on Saturday at Sutton and next Tuesday against Maidenhead.

Our recovery session was massive on Monday in terms of getting ourselves on the right footing for the rest of the week."

Last time against Sutton United

April 2021 – The Robins suffered a heavy defeat the last time the two sides met, at The J.Davidson Stadium.

Two goals from Donovan Wilson and one from Robert Misom and Tobi Sho-Silva helped Sutton to a 4-0 victory.

In our first away game of the season, we'll be playing in our home kit – produced by Puma and sponsored by AO, McHale & Co. and Car Finance 247.

Travel

By Car Travel along the M25 to junction 8. Then north on the A217 for about 15-20 minutes. Stay on the A217 to the traffic lights with the Cheam Road (A232) and turn right toward Sutton.

Do not turn into Gander Green Lane, keep going until you reach the Sutton one-way system and turn left into St Nicholas Way and then left again into the Gibson Road municipal car park.

It is then a relatively short walk down Collingwood Road to the away end of the stadium.

Car Parking Away fans should park in Gibson Road, the local municipal car park. It takes no more than fifteen minutes to walk from Gibson Road to the stadium and the route brings you in at the east end of the ground, The Collingwood Road End, which is the area reserved for away supporters.

By Train It is recommended that visiting supporters use Sutton station, which is on the main lines out of Victoria and London Bridge and is at the top end of Sutton High Street, about 20 minutes’ walk from the ground.

The pub near the station is The Old Bank and they will offer a warm welcome to
visiting fans.

West Sutton railway station is adjacent to the ground. It is served by Thameslink
trains via Wimbledon or Sutton but trains are less frequent. Come out of West Sutton station and turn right into Gander Green Lane and the ground is about 100 yards further along.

Away fans should walk past the main entrance and after about 70 yards turn right into Collingwood Recreation Ground. Go all along to the far end for the away turnstiles.
