Altrincham return to Vanarama National League action after a two-week break as we travel to the ARMCO Arena to face Solihull Moors for the third time this season on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Setting the Scene
The timing of the fortnight break for the Robins came at an adverse time, as our last fixture was a dominant 5-0 victory away from home against AFC Fylde.
Regan Linney bagged a first-half hat-trick to take his National League goal tally to seven for the season before Alex Newby and Elliot Osborne added a goal each in the second half. After scoring six goals in one game on three separate occasions last campaign, our match at Mill Farm was the first time we have put five past an opponent this year.
The impressive victory saw Altrincham rise into ninth place, only two points behind the play-off places. Ahead of Saturday’s meeting, Solihull Moors sit one point and one place above us in the table, having earned 24 points from their 16 matches.
After their defeat in the 2023/24 National League playoff final, Solihull Moors have had a solid start to this season. Their results have been fairly unpredictable – only three teams in the division have a higher combined tally of goals for and goals against – but they have picked up some impressive victories along the way.
Despite losing to Gateshead in their previous league game, they have got the better of top teams like Barnet, Oldham and Rochdale.
The Gaffer
“We’ll be consistent with everything that we do, and that’s a promise that the fans will get from me. There won’t be any inconsistencies, any sitting back and thinking we’ve got it cracked, we’ll be working extremely hard going into the next run of fixtures.”
Last time against Solihull Moors
October 2024 – Altrincham were on the losing side of an Emirates FA Cup penalty shootout the last time the sides met last month.
Following a 1-1 draw at The J.Davidson Stadium, the Fourth Round Qualifying replay saw Alty fall behind early in the game, before goals from Charlie Olson and Tom Crawford gave the visitors a 2-1 lead heading into added time in the second half.
Unfortunately, however, Jamey Osborne equalised in the 91st minute and the Moors went on to win the penalty shootout.
