ALTY begin the new Vanarama National League campaign this weekend by welcoming Woking to The J.Davidson Stadium for the first competitive fixture of the 2024/25 season (kick-off 3pm).

Another pre-season has been and gone, and Phil Parkinson and the squad will look to hit the ground running and carry the momentum from a strong summer schedule into the league campaign.

Setting the Scene

The Robins produced a valiant performance to round off their pre-season schedule last weekend, as they drew 0-0 against League Two opposition Bradford City.

Alty were pushing for a winner throughout the 90 minutes, but through a
combination of exceptional defending and wayward finishing, they never found the
goal to give them the win.

Regardless of the result, there are a lot of positives to take from the performance, as matching up well with a side in the Football League for the second time this summer proves that the squad are capable of yet another memorable campaign.

Our first opponents of the upcoming Vanarama National League campaign
composed a remarkable run at the back end of last season to avoid relegation,
finishing 17th.

Michael Doyle’s side were unbeaten in eight of their final 11 games, including
victories over three of the division’s top five. The Cards have endured a turbulent
pre-season, winning only one of their five friendlies, but that does not reflect their
quality, and they will provide a stern test for Alty on Saturday.

The Gaffer

"It's a great division and the competition is excellent. We aren't the biggest football club but we have big ambitions. We want to improve on what we did last season, which is going to be tough and we're going to have to fight tooth and nail to get where we want to be.

We'll have to punch above our weight, even though we'll have the target on our back now. We know what mindset we've got to have. We've shown it in pre-season and we've got to take it into the season."

Last time against Woking

March 2024 – The Robins suffered a heart-breaking late defeat the last time the two sides met. Ricky Korboa won the away side the three points as he rounded off a devastating injury-time counterattack for Woking.
