Preview | Aldershot Town (a)

ALTY are back playing in front of the TNT cameras this Saturday (5.30pm) as we look to solidify our Vanarama National League playoff spot against Aldershot Town at The Recreation Ground.

The Robins (4th, 52pts) served revenge to local rivals Rochdale last weekend at The J. Davidson Stadium, delivering a scintillating 3-goal victory and returning the favour from earlier in the season at the Crown Oil Arena.

Meanwhile, The Shots (7th, 48pts) aim to rebound from their 5-0 home loss against AFC Fylde, following Cian Harries dismissal in the 33rd minute. Harries’ absence for Saturday’s fixture will provide a huge blow not only to our host’s defence but also to their set-piece threat - with Harries having scored five goals in the league so far.

Hear from the Gaffer

On the Rochdale strategic battle: “To press Rochdale, ultimately, you have to go man-to-man. You can’t have any player dropping off because they will just open you up, they are that clinical with their passing. They have a set way of playing which we have researched and ultimately it allowed us to execute our gameplan.”

A message to the fans: “I want more (fans). It is brilliant that it is getting bigger and I am getting greedy now as we get used to (bigger attendances). Rather than averaging 2,000 of our own fans, I want to get that to 2,500. If you know anybody in the area who is interested in football then get them down here and hooked on the team because I guarantee that they will enjoy it.”

Last time against Aldershot

Altrincham 2-1 Aldershot (Chris Conn-Clarke 24’, Alex Newby 77’)

October last year – Torrential rain was not enough to blunt a lightning Altrincham attack that put The Shots to the sword as they earned a fourth consecutive league victory. Chris Conn-Carke produced a majestic first-half goal to open the scoreline. While Aldershot levelled through a penalty in the 77th minute, the Robins secured victory via a wonderful team goal capped off by Alex Newby.
