Now Eddy is out with an ACL injury

Eddy Jones has become the latest Altrincham player to suffer a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury and has undergone surgery to mark the start of his rehabilitation.

The Alty left-back has been missing for the last few weeks with what initially appeared to be nothing more than a niggle, but scans subsequently showed he had sustained damage to his ACL and an operation was required.

The shock news was delivered by manager Phil Parkinson in his post-match interview at Boundary Park on Tuesday night as he reflected on the Robins' 2-2 draw with Oldham Athletic.

You can listen to the interview below, as Phil provided an update on Eddy and Ethan Ross and stressed how everyone at the club is ready to rally round both players and ensure they have all the support they need on the road to recovery.

"It's absolutely devastating when something like this happens to players like Ethan and Eddy," he said. "It's gut-wrenching to these top, top lads who bleed red and white and give everything every single week.

"This is the brutal nature of football, and it is horrible, so hard to swallow.

"Eddy's didn't happen in a game, so perhaps has gone under the radar a bit, but the whole football club will support him, just as we will Ethan. He has been outstanding for us as well, and we will be with both of them every step of the way."

Phil also shed some light on why ACL injuries have become so prevalent, blaming the strains and stresses of so many high-intensity games, and you can hear everything he had to say by clicking on Brian Flynn's interview with him below.
