Altrincham's quest for honours has been given another boost after a second loan player pledged himself to the Robins for the rest of the season.

Just over a week ago, Alty's defensive resources were significantly bolstered when Charlie Olson accepted the opportunity to continue his loan move from Blackburn Rovers for the remainder of the campaign.

Now manager Phil Parkinson can count on the services of Wrexham striker Jake Bickerstaff until the last kick of our three-pronged pursuit of silverware after an agreement was reached for the same loan extension.

Jake was due to return to The Racecourse Ground today, following the expiry of a loan that began at the end of August, but he will now remain part of a squad that will be needed in its entirety as the Robins bid to maintain an interest in the Vanarama National League promotion race, the Isuzu FA Trophy and the National League Cup.

The 23-year old's selfless running and ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play has increasingly come to the fore in recent weeks, and Phil expressed his appreciation for League One promotion chasers Wrexham consenting to their highly-regarded frontrunner staying with us.

"I'm really pleased Wrexham have allowed us to keep Jake until the end of the season," he said. "I feel he’s really starting to find his feet with us, and he does give something different to Joe and Regan.

"He gives us the ability to really stretch the opponent with his pace and willingness to run in behind as well as his ability to score a goal. He’s a good pro and just wants to keep learning and improving each week - exactly the type of player we look to recruit."

As touched on by the gaffer, Jake underlined his growing impact at The J.Davidson Stadium by starting against Barnet a week last Saturday and making the most of his opportunity with an influential contribution to a 3-1 Trophy triumph.

He combined superbly with Alex Newby for an equaliser by Tom Crawford that proved the springboard for a place in the last 16, and there was warm applause from team-mates and fans when he made way for Joe Nuttall in the 84th minute.

With so much still to play for this season (starting tonight with Footy For A Fiver against Maidenhead), it's great that you will be with us for the duration, Jake, and all the very best from everyone for continuing success in Alty colours.
