Fit-again James lands new Alty deal!

JAMES Jones has marked his welcome return to full fitness by signing a new contract at The J.Davidson Stadium.

After missing the second half of it through injury, the experienced defender was among a handful of players invited back for the build-up to the new campaign when Alty's retained list was announced at the beginning of May.

In a style that typifies his steely determination, he soon set about proving he had recovered fully from the shoulder problem that required surgery as he threw himself into pre-season training with his Robins team-mates.

That was followed up with an assured performance as Alty launched their 2024-25 preparations with a 1-0 win at Colne last Saturday, and, after putting pen to paper on a deal to extend his second stay at the club, James said:

"I'm really pleased to have signed a new contract. I love playing for Alty, and it was great to get some minutes under my belt against Colne. Pre-season training has gone well so far, and I'm looking forward to the new season starting."

The cultured centre-back's impact in his initial spell with Alty earned him a move to League Two Barrow, and Alty were delighted to welcome him back after he opted for a fresh challenge in the summer of 2022.

Reflecting on the new contract for James, Alty boss Phil said: "I'm really pleased James Jones has signed a new contract with the football club. His previous season was disappointing for him through injuries, but he's come back more determined than ever and he's in the best condition I've seen him in.

Hopefully he can stay injury free and make us even stronger this season. James raise standards both on and off the pitch and it was imperative we were able to retain a player of his experience and affinity with the football club."
