Alty on the road for return meeting of our festive two-parter against the Shaymen

By Joe Ward

Alty are back on the road and back in Vanarama National League action on New Year’s Day when we travel across the Pennines for the second instalment of our festive double-header with FC Halifax Town at The Shay (Sunday 3pm kick-off).

The Golf Road terraces witnessed a Christmas Miracle in the first of our festive two-parter against Halifax as Chris Conn-Clarke's incredible solo goal delivered all three points for the Robins in stoppage time on Boxing Day.

With the scores locked at 1-1, in what had been a fiercely-contested battle with the Shaymen, it looked as though both sides would share the spoils at The J.Davidson Stadium as the fourth official's board showed four minutes of added time.

Nevertheless, Conn-Clarke's cracker sent a bumper crowd of 3,000 into ecstasy in the 92nd minute, meaning we head into this Sunday's return meeting with all of the bragging rights.

The win extended our unbeaten streak to seven games and bumped us up to 12th position in the Vanarama National League, the highest we've been this season.

For the Shaymen, they will see Sunday as an immediate opportunity to put things right. Manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV shortly after the game, saying:

“It hurts at the moment because we’ve passed up a good opportunity to take three points. Credit to Altrincham for the way they came out after they scored that equaliser. But again, we’ve got to look ourselves in the mirror and accept some harsh truths which is we’ve underperformed in the second half.”
