An insight into the world of politics awaits members at the next meeting of Altrincham FC's Business Club at The J.Davidson Stadium on Friday morning.

From afar, we hear daily accounts of how the country is being run by elected politicians, but what is it actually like to be on the inside, striding the corridors of power in Westminster?

Who better to answer than our sitting MP, Connor Rand, and we are delighted to announce that he is our latest guest speaker and will be addressing members and invited guests in the sumptuous surroundings of Club Alty 1891 this coming Friday, September 25th.

Alty's Business Club celebrated its fifth birthday last month and has long since gained an enviable reputation for attracting distinguished, high-profile speakers, from internationally-renowned referees Anthony Taylor and Chris Foy to captains of industry and leading lights from the world of media, arts, hospitality and education.

This month is no exception, with Timperley resident Connor ready to provide a glimpse into life as a parliamentarian after helping Labour take the Altrincham and Sale West constituency off the Conservatives at the last election.

One of the House of Commons' younger members at 33 years old, Connor had a majority of 4,174 over his Conservative opponent just over two years ago, in July 2024, and quickly settled into the role of representing  the interests of his constituents.

This month alone, he has contributed to debates in the Commons on topics such as supporting the renewal of our High Streets, the safety of our Jewish community and the Infants, Parents and Carers Bill.

The cut and thrust of debating matters of national importance, as well as dealing with more local issues, will doubtless feature in Connor's address, and it promises to be one not to be missed for our ever-growing number of Business Club members.

As usual, proceedings will begin with tea or coffee and hot breakfast rolls, and, after the main feature of an illuminating talk from Connor, there will be scope for networking before September's get-together draws to a close at 10am or soon after.
