Altrincham Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of legendary winger, Barry Howard.

Barry’s sister, Jane Peet, who watched Barry, home and away, during his time with the Robins writes, 

"It is of greatest sadness to inform you that my brother, football legend Barry Howard has sadly passed away. He was suffering from Alzheimer’s and his body gave up at the age of 73. He spent many happy seasons at Altrincham with many other greats as did myself and our family in giving him full support. Many fond memories were shared with one of the greatest teams on record. I’m sure your loyal supporters will be very sad of his passing.

A tribute to Barry, one of the best and most popular players in the club’s history, who made 288 appearances, scoring 73 goals, between 1978/9 and 1983/4 seasons will be published on this website on Thursday.

With the recent passing of Mark Maddox, Altrincham Football Club has, very sadly, lost two of its most iconic legends within a matter of hours.

Altrincham Football Club wishes to honour and pay respects in an appropriate manner that recognises the outstanding contribution that each player made in creating club history, therefore, as previously announced, there will be a minute’s applause for Mark at Saturday’s home game with Chesterfield (KO 3pm) and a minute’s applause for Barry at our next home game, against Bromley, on the following Saturday (September 2^nd-KO 3pm).

Everyone at Altrincham Football Club sends its most sincere and deepest condolences to Jane and all of Barry’s family.
