Nantwich Town Women hadn’t lost a league game since September 15, 2024, though that was no problem for Altrincham FC Women, who beat the Dabbers 4-2 at Partington Sports Village in the North West Women’s Regional League Division One South.

Having lost 8-1 against Nantwich on the opening day of the season, the result illustrates the remarkable progress Daryll Abrahams’ side have made in just a matter of months.

The visitors had the first opportunities of the game, with Bethany Grice forcing Olivia Kaleta into a great save, moments before a Nantwich free kick was headed over at the back post.

Altrincham opened the scoring after 16 minutes, when Georgia McKnight appeared to put in a cross from the right flank, though the ball flew over the goalkeeper and nestled into the bottom left corner.

Just 10 minutes later, the advantage was doubled, as captain Nat Lowe scored her second goal in as many games, finishing beautifully from the edge of the box.

Amanda Fallon, the league’s top scorer with 23 goals, was kept very quiet throughout the 90 minutes. One of her only shots of the game came courtesy of an audacious lob from 25 yards, which went over the crossbar.

A minute later, though, Nantwich’s deficit was halved. Following a defensive mix-up, Katie Locke converted into her own net.

With just a couple of minutes of the first half remaining, the two-goal lead was restored. McKnight cut the ball back to Millie Kullu, who was on hand to fire past the goalkeeper.

Nantwich enjoyed a decent spell of pressure after the break, with Katie Greenwood’s glancing header from a corner going just wide, before Kaleta was forced into a good save.

After dealing with the Dabbers’ attacking threat well, Altrincham hit on the counter attack. Kullu and Jacobson linked up well on the left flank, the latter saw her shot deflect beyond Connie Watts.

With 20 minutes to go, Fallon had another attempt after intercepting a loose pass by Kaleta, though she struck wide.

In the dying stages, Nantwich again headed wide from a corner, before Abigail Poulton volleyed into the side netting at the back post.

The visitors did pull one back in the third minute of injury time, as Megan Ragdale produced a sensational strike from range towards the left-hand side, though it proved to be just a consolation.
