Alty on the road for quarter-final clash with Vauxhall Motors

By Joe Ward

It's a break from league action and a return to Cheshire Senior Cup football for Alty when we travel to Vauxhall Motors on Tuesday evening (7:45PM kick-off) in the quarter-final of the competition.

The Robins were unable to find a way past Boreham Wood in our last game as we lost 2-0 at home in the league.

There was no lack of effort, particularly in the second half, from Phil Parkinson's lads. However, it was an uphill task for Alty from the moment the visitors took the lead in the 25th minute.

Nevertheless, our attention now turns to Tuesday night for what promises to be a tough test against a side who are currently top of the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Our hosts head into the tie off the back of a 3-2 victory against bottom of the league Ashton Athletic on Saturday.

Manager's Views

Altrincham Manager Phil Parkinson spoke with Brian Flynn following Alty's 2-0 loss to Boreham Wood on Saturday afternoon.

About The Opposition

Vauxhall Motors are currently top of the North West Countries League Premier Division, seven points clear of second-placed Wythenshawe Town.

The Motormen are sure to be up for it, with a chance of reaching the semi-finals of the Cheshire Senior Cup.

Mick McGraa's side head into the fixture having won five of their last six in the league, though they made hard work of it in their last game against bottom-of-the-league Ashton Athletic.

The scores were level heading into the 92nd minute, but top scorer Lewis Buckley rescued all three points for the Motormen with a goal in the dying embers, extending his impressive tally to 21 goals in 28 appearances this season.

As ever, Phil Parkinson, Neil Sorvel and the players are hoping for plenty of vocal backing as we look to return to winning ways before we host league leaders Wrexham on Saturday.

So, get yourself along to support them at the vanEupen Arena this Tuesday.
