Altrincham FC's Roll Of Honour this Boxing Day

Altrincham FC’s Roll of Honour, remembering those associated with the Robins who have passed away during the last 12 months will be read out by Co-Chairman Bill Waterson ahead of the Boxing Day game with FC Halifax Town.

One of the club’s longest standing fans was Peter Ripley, who sadly passed away during the summer.

Peter had been an avid follower of Altrincham FC for more than six decades & wrote programme articles in the ‘Robins Review’ in the 1970s, becoming one of the club’s best-known supporters.

His son, Mike, gave magnificent service as club photographer for more than ten years, including during the COVID19 pandemic, when fans were not able to watch games live. During this significant period in Altrincham FC’s history, we suffered two relegations & enjoyed two promotions.

Peter missed Alty’s first visit to Wembley Stadium for the 1978 FA Trophy Final, as Mike was born on that day, April 29, 1978, however he witnessed our two other trips to the twin towers in 1982 & 1986, when Mick Farrelly’s goal was enough to beat Runcorn & the Robins became FA Trophy holders for the second time.

As well as seeing his favourite team at Wembley, Peter also saw the Robins play in the FA Cup at Anfield, Old Trafford, Maine Road, White Hart Lane, Goodison Park, St Andrews, Molineux, Ewood Park and Bramall Lane and experienced the two Alliance Premier League title winning seasons in 1980 & 81.

Peter was a very popular character, renowned by those who knew him for his dry sense of humour & had been ill for some time, before his passing during the close season.

We will be remembering Peter & all others, associated with Altrincham FC, who have sadly passed, on Thursday.

If you know of anyone, who was linked to the football club, who has passed in 2024, and you are not sure if the club is aware, please let us know by messaging Brian Flynn via the ‘Contact Us’ page on the club website.
