A midweek trip to Boundary Park

Altrincham head to Boundary Park to face promotion rivals Oldham Athletic in a rearranged Vanarama National League fixture on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm

Setting the Scene

The Robins travel to this fixture full of confidence, having comfortably beaten Braintree Town 3-1 in our previous league fixture.

An early goal from Alex Newby was followed by Regan Linney’s 16th league goal of
the campaign and a late Joe Nuttall strike to give Alty a healthy 3-0 advantage. Chay
Cooper scored to reduce the deficit for Braintree in the 82nd minute, but Altrincham’s
impressive first 80 minutes meant they were never in danger of being caught.

With Saturday’s result, we have now gone seven games in all competitions without
defeat, and we sit seventh in the league table. Our opponents have had an impressive season so far and find themselves in fourth, nine points ahead of Alty.

After an underwhelming season in 2023/24, the Latics flew out of the blocks this year. Despite a difficult festive period and being 10 points behind the league leaders, games in hand and recent form means it is far too early to rule them out of the title race.

Mike Fondop ranks third for goals scored this season and only four teams have conceded fewer than our opponents, highlighting their strength at both ends of the pitch.

The thoughts of Phil Parkinson

““Oldham is a huge club. Their following demands that they win every week. Their
history, their league status demands that they win every week. They will expect to
beat us, but we will go there fully confident that we can go and beat them."

[To the fans] “Come in your numbers, get behind us, sing your hearts out. Just
remember all the good games you’ve seen home and away – it’s not always going to
go our way, but it doesn’t get much bigger for us, locally, geographically, size of club,
lets show how good we are.”

Back in August

August 2024 – The points were shared in this season’s reverse fixture between Alty and Oldham at The J.Davidson Stadium.

James Norwood scored early to put the visitors ahead, but a diving header from Regan Linney in the second half meant the points were shared.
