Robins Strengthen Backroom Team with Appointment of Head of Physical Performance

Altrincham have taken another significant step in strengthening their football operations ahead of the 2026/27 season by appointing fitness and conditioning expert Kyle Taylor to a key role in manager Neil Gibson's backroom staff.

In a move that underlines the club's continued investment in player performance, availability and long term development, Kyle has been recruited as Head of Physical Performance and is already making his presence felt.

June 1st is his official starting date, but he has already begun working behind the scenes on individually tailored fitness programmes aimed at ensuring each player is physically prepared for the demands of a National League campaign.

Neil benefitted from Kyle's expertise at Connah's Quay, where they won the Welsh FA Cup in 2018, reached the final the following year and embarked on a trailblazing Europa Conference League campaign, and the Robins boss underlined the significance of Alty's latest appointment by saying:

"I'm thrilled to have Kyle on board, and it says everything about his professionalism and commitment that he has already had an input into our pre-season plans ahead of joining us officially.

"We all know the damaging effect injuries can have on the rhythm and momentum of a season. Such are the demands of the modern game that the risks are greater than ever, so it's impossible to overstate the importance of this appointment.

"Having worked alongside Kyle, I've seen for myself how good he is at devising plans that will give individual players the best chance of coping with everything a long, hard season can throw at them. He has a level of experience and professionalism that can only stand us in good stead as we prepare for another season, and I'm genuinely excited about renewing our working relationship."

Kyle's reputation as a leading exponent of modern techniques for maximising performance levels has been honed during spells with the likes of Tranmere Rovers and Swindon Town as well as three years at Anfield as an influential figure within the renowned Liverpool Academy. He places a strong emphasis on physical development, fatigue management, and return-to-performance, while integrating evidence-based practice into the realities of modern football.

Now, the know-how that has built up over the last seven or eight years in a field that has become a requirement for success in professional circles is at Alty's disposal, and Kyle can't wait to put it to good effect.

"I'm really looking forward to joining the club and getting started during pre-season," he said.

"After speaking with Neil Gibson and John Coyne, it was clear there is a strong vision and ambition for what the club wants to achieve, and I'm excited to play my part in that.

"My aim is to create an environment that supports the individual needs of each player, helping develop robust athletes who can consistently perform at the intensity required by the manager's playing style, while building strong relationships with both players and staff."

The club are delighted to have completed such a significant addition to our backroom staff, one that reflects our continued commitment to creating an elite environment for players to develop, perform and succeed.

Everyone at Altrincham FC would like to welcome Kyle to The J.Davidson Stadium and wish him every success in his role.
