Goals galore but young Robins just miss out

South Shields 4 Altrincham 3

Altrincham started the game with a very high and energetic press, and it soon paid dividends in this National League fixture.

Within the first 15 minutes, the young Robins had the lead as Isaac Mannion (pictured) scored after capitalizing on one of their pressing moments.

Not long after, however, South Shields equalized following a mistake from Altrincham, and they then went ahead to make it 2–1.

Altrincham responded well to the setback, with Josh Herreaman receiving the ball on the edge of the box and driving a shot into the bottom corner to level the scores at 2–2.

Back came South Shields once again, and, just before half-time, they regained the lead as the first half ended 3–2 to the home team.

The second half saw a shift in style, with both teams relying more on long-ball football, likely due to fatigue.

Around 20 minutes into the half, South Shields extended their advantage to 4–2. There were chances for both sides, but neither managed to convert for a while.

With 15 minutes remaining, Herreaman  picked up the ball on the edge of the box and took a shot. The South Shields keeper made the save, but the rebound fell straight to Josh Obamwonyi, who tapped it in to make it 4–3.

In the closing stages, Altrincham pushed hard for an equalizer but were unable to find the net.
