Alty in good shape but tough test awaits at in-form Bracknell

By Joe Ward

It's a break from Vanarama National League action for Alty on Saturday when we take on Bracknell Town in the fifth round of the Isuzu FA Trophy at The SB Stadium (3:00pm kick-off).

It was rough justice for the Robins in our last outing, which saw our largest league attendance at Moss Lane since 1968, as we lost to promotion-chasing Wrexham thanks to a late Eoghan O'Connell winner.

However, on the evidence of an enthralling 90 minutes, which included an unstoppable equaliser from Miles Welch-Hayes, there were plenty of positives for Phil Parkinson to take, particularly after a week of comings and goings in the final stages of the transfer window.

As the busy schedule continues, our attention now turns to FA Trophy action for what promises to be a tough test against a side who have won 10 of their last 12 games in all competitions.

About The Opposition

Bracknell Town head into the game off the back of a 2-1 victory over Tiverton in the league on Tuesday night.

The Robins, who were founded in 1896, compete in the Southern League Premier Division South, the seventh tier of English football, and are currently fourth in the table.

So far, it's been a successful campaign for the Berkshire-based side, who qualified for the first round of the FA Cup for just the second time in the club's history, losing 3-0 at home to Ipswich Town.

Our hosts undoubtedly go into Saturday's game as underdogs, however, it will be a test that Phil Parkinson's men shouldn't take lightly.

With a mixture of youth and experience throughout the squad, the home team have impressed in front of goal this season, boasting the second-highest number of goals scored in their league, with 56 in 23 games.

Bracknell will surely be looking to build on an encouraging result in the last round of the Trophy, when they beat sixth-tier side Bath City 1-0 at home.

Saturday's fixture will be the first meeting between the two sides, and with no limits on the use of loan players in this competition, it will be interesting to see if more of our recent signings are on view as we continue to push for a trip to Wembley.
