We head for Roots Hall

Words Charlie Staples | Pictures Jonathan Moore

Alty head into Saturday's Enterprise National League clash with Southend United at Roots Hall on the back of three straight wins and four league games unbeaten under Neil Gibson.

Last week saw the Robins extend their unbeaten run at the expense of Brackley Town. Striker James Gale scored his fifth of the season, alongside Tom Crawford, who scored his first of 2025/26 to seal the three points in the second half.

Our Opponents

The Shrimpers find themselves in good stead this season, currently occupying the final play-off place in the Enterprise National League.

Kevin Maher's side have won nine, drawn five and lost four games up to now. Under manager Kevin Maher, they will be hoping to continue their form from last season and continue to challenge near the top of the table to qualify for the play-offs yet again.

Since the arrival of Neil Gibson and Lee Jones at the end of October, Alty's defence has been phenomenal, conceding just once in four league matches. To continue this impressive record, they will have to be aware of former Kilmarnock and Barnsley striker Andrew Dallas, who has seven goals for our hosts this season.

A few words from Neil Gibson

"We've looked at what we can do better in terms of our away record. I don't think at times we've got the results as a football club that we deserved, but Southend is a very difficult place to go.

"What we've done since we came in is gone to Braintree and got a draw, which we felt was positive. Then we went to Slough and that was a result that shocked us. On the back of that we have to make sure when we go away that we give our fans something to cheer and make their journey worthwhile.

"We've got to make sure we turn up, which is what we did at Truro, and give ourselves a good chance of winning the game."
