TNT Sports reveal latest batch of live TV games - and Alty are included!

Report by John Edwards

Altrincham are hitting the nation's television screens again in September after being included in TNT Sports' latest selection of live Vanarama National League fixtures for the forthcoming 2023-24 season.

TNT, the new name for BT Sport following a rebrand by the broadcaster, have announced the matches they have chosen for the first couple of months, and Alty's trip to Oxford City is among them.

The Robins travel to Ross Jenkins' newly-promoted side on Saturday September 30th, and the exciting news for everyone connected with the club is that TNT's cameras will be there covering every kick.

As is the custom for Saturday games shown live on TV, the kick-off will be put back from 3pm to 5.30pm.

Alty featured in BT Sport's schedule of live games three times last season, starting with an eventful encounter at Torquay United on October 22nd, when the home side managed to salvage a point in a frenetic 4-4 draw with an equaliser deep into added time.

There were no complaints about value for money from the broadcasters when they visited The J.Davidson Stadium, either, as Alty stormed back from conceding early on to beat York City 2-1 in November and, three months later, pushed Wrexham all the way in another gripping encounter before the champions-elect shaded it with a late winner.

Now the Robins find themselves in the TV spotlight again against an Oxford side who secured their place in the fifth tier of English football for the first time in their history with a 4-0 home win over St Albans City in last season's National League South promotion play-off final.

One familiar name in their squad is midfielder Alfie Potter, now 34 but still remembered for the prominent part he played in the goal that stunned Anfield and gave Havant & Waterlooville a 2-1 FA Cup fourth round lead back in 2008 before Liverpool recovered to avoid one of the competition's biggest-ever shocks with a 5-2 win.

The Hoops are managed by Ross Jenkins, not to be confused with the prolific striker of the same name who made well over 300 appearances for Watford in the 1970s and scored goals at better than a rate of one every three games.

Oxford's Ross Jenkins was a central midfielder who coincidentally also played for Watford and who, at just 32, has made an impressive start to his managerial career.

As ever, Phil and the players will be hoping for a bumper turnout of Alty fans, making their presence felt and backing the team in their usual invaluable and vociferous way.

But if you can't make it to Marsh Lane, also known as the RAW Charging Stadium, there is now the option of following the Robins' fortunes on live TV.
