The biggest game in Altrincham FC Women's history

It’s the game Altrincham FC Women have been building to for weeks, the Adobe
Women’s FA Cup third round tie against York City Ladies.

The encounter at The J.Davidson Stadium, kicking off at 2pm on Sunday, is the biggest in Altrincham FC Women’s history.

The Cup Run

The Robins kick started this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup campaign against league rivals Macclesfield FC Women, also at The J.Davidson Stadium. Daryll Abrahams will be hoping his side can start in a similar manner, as Alty found themselves 3-0 up after just half an hour, ultimately winning the game 6-3.

In second round qualifying, the furthest stage Altrincham FC Women had ever reached in the competition up to this season, Atherton LR were dispatched, before three further away wins followed, against Stockton Town, Penrith and Ponteland United.

Georgia McKnight scored in every round until the Ponteland United fixture and will be looking to increase her Women’s FA Cup goal tally of six goals this campaign.

The Opposition

Like Altrincham, York City Ladies are competing in the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup for the first time in their history. Having entered at the third round qualifying stage, the Minster Belles three matches to reach this stage have all been at home - beating West Didsbury & Chorlton 5-1, Leeds Modernians 1-0 and Wroxham 3-1.

York City Ladies compete in the FA Women's National League Division One North, two steps above the Robins, though they’re only one point above Doncaster Rovers Belles in the relegation zone. Having beaten a strong step five side in Ponteland, and runaway leaders Nantwich Town in the league, Daryll Abraham’s side will be full of confidence that they have what it takes to cause another upset.

Dan Jackson’s side picked up only their second league win of the season recently, a 3-0 victory over a Blackburn Rovers outfit who sit bottom of the table with zero points. Their most recent game at home against Cheadle Town Stingers was abandoned at half time due to a waterlogged pitch, with the visitors 1-0 ahead.

Match tickets are priced as follows, and can be purchased here or at the Golf Road turnstiles from 1pm on matchday (cash/card accepted).
