Sponsors and partners to the fore at Alty golf day!

Report by John Edwards
Altrincham's commercial activities are continuing to flourish after they marked the launch of a new partnership with PFP Wealth by joining forces with them to stage a highly-successful golf day at Mottram Hall.
Renowned for their financial expertise, with a head office in Wakefield and advisors based around the country, PFP staff were on hand to welcome each and every entrant to Mottram Hall Spa and Golf Hotel for a competition that had prizes for individual and collective excellence but was essentially a celebration of the club's many greatly-valued partners and sponsors.
Alty director of partnerships and sponsors Sam Mackenzie was also there to ensure the event's smooth running, and, after being introduced to a packed lounge in the golf pavilion by PFP financial advisor Steve Taylor, whose son Ben plays for the Robins' under-16s team, she said:
"I would just like to say thanks to all our wonderful sponsors who are here today, along with some great friends of the club, whose backing is also appreciated. We faced quite a challenge going full-time last summer, but it is clear we are heading in the right direction and there are exciting times ahead. We are going from strength to strength as a club, but we couldn't do it without your invaluable support."
Before the four-ball teams teed off, including two involving Alty players, PFP managing director and founding director Keith Humphrey delivered an informative and illuminating address on the generation gap, emphasising why financial guidance is more relevant today than ever for young adults,
As an example of the difficulties faced by first-time buyers in the property market, and why careful planning is a must for anyone looking to become a homeowner, Keith pointed out that while the average house price was four times the average salary in 2002, it is now eight times as much.
Practice swings and putts completed, battle duly commenced, with one Alty line-up starting on the first tee and the other on the 10th.
Josh Lundstram led the way on the 502-yard first with a booming drive straight down the middle, followed by an equally-impressive smack by the left-handed Eddy Jones. Matt Gould wasn't too far behind with his effort from the tee, and while there was a hint of a hook about Matty Kosylo's opener, it was greeted by a cheery "I'll settle for that, boys" as the 36-handicapper headed left for his next shot.
On the 10th, Jordan Hulme showed the way with an unerring drive, and it was matched by his team-mates, dad Martin, former Alty physio Tommy Uda and Robins fan and volunteer Graeme McLaren.
Eighteen holes later, and after a late-afternoon two-course lunch back in the bar area, the scores were totted up, with Jordan's team winning the top award of a hospitality package and second prize of autographed footballs and golf caps going to the quartet of Paul Wilock (Paul's Portraits), Tom Owen (Stonehewer Moss Solicitors), Andy Wilson (Cameron Wilson Project Services) and Ben Goodacre (guest of Tom).
A golf umbrella and set of golf balls for the longest drive went to Eddy Jones, while the same prize for nearest the pin on one of the par three holes was won by Charlie Brooks (pictured wearing cap), Head of Communications and Marketing for Populous.
Reflecting on a day that was hailed as a success by everyone who attended, Sam Mackenzie added: "It was wonderful to bring together so many of our partners and friends, like McHale and Co, Ad People, Car Finance 247, Catax, Harvey Nichols, who sponsor our man-of-the-match awards, the list goes on. Also our friends from Manchester United, such as Mike Gibson, and Viv Anderson, who actively participates in so much that we do.
"It is great to build this partnership with PFP Wealth. We are just embarking on it, and this golf day at such a fantastic location seemed the ideal way to start it and announce to everyone that we are continuing to develop and progress with partners of such renown.
"They sponsor our business club, which has been a fantastic success story over the past couple of seasons, and it means so much to us to establish a relationship with partners who share our values, which all of the others do, too.
"Congratulations to Jordan and his dad and Tommy and Graeme on winning the team prize. It was great catching up with Tommy again and lovely that Jordan personally invited Graeme along for all the voluntary work he does as part of the pitch crew. That was a really nice gesture but so typical of our club."
