Sam Barnes is the latest first team player to commit his future to the Robins after agreeing a new contract ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 25-year-old central defender made 21 appearances for Alty last season, after moving to The J.Davidson Stadium on a free transfer in August.

On signing his new contract, Sam said: “I’m really pleased to be continuing with Alty. I’ve loved my time at the club so far and it has really helped me to get my enjoyment of playing football back.

“I’m excited to work with the gaffer again and to help the squad achieve a positive 2026/27.”

Manager Neil Gibson is delighted to have secured Sam’s signature ahead of the new season.

“I'm really pleased to keep Sam for another year. We saw so much potential in Sam last season and we know the pedigree of the player is there.

“He had an extremely unlucky season, but we saw what he was capable of when he came back in after his injury - a really confident, ball-playing central defender who's mobile, quick and can play high up the pitch. He really suits the style of defender I want at the football club.

“He's got an exceptional attitude and he's already working with Kyle, our new S&C coach, to make sure he's in the best possible shape when pre-season begins.”
