The Robins’ trip to the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium to take on Enterprise National League North outfit Chorley ended goalless, but it was another 90 minutes in the tank for Neil Gibson’s side.

Early sightings on goal for Alty saw Kian Breckin’s effort towards the far corner blocked, whilst Joel Bailey, who looked an attacking threat from left-back, fired over.

At the other end, the Magpies’ 25-yard free kick was comfortably claimed by Owen Evans. Despite breaking into the final third on many occasions, Altrincham struggled to create chances.

They were presented with a decent opportunity after good work by Otis Khan down the left flank, but Kahrel Reddin’s half volley went over. Defensively, the Robins dealt with a couple of Chorley corners effectively.

Half time saw four pre-planned switches, with Louie Fallon replacing Evans between the sticks. Bailey, Remi Raymond and the impressive Jack Hinchy also made way for Sam Taylor, Charlie Olson and Charlie Kirk.

Chorley would have the first chance of the second half, new signing Elliot Taylor's shot just wide had Fallon scrambling. Lewis Banks then forced the host’s trialist goalkeeper into a smart stop.

Altrincham’s five remaining substitutes were introduced on the 65-minute mark in Jake Cooper, Liam Humbles, Aidan Barlow, Jimmy Knowles and Lucas Weaver, with Sam Barnes, Breckin, Crawford, Kristian Dennis and Reddin withdrawn. Bailey and Raymond would re-enter with 15 minutes to go, in place of Banks and Khan, the only starters remaining on the pitch.

The visitors pilled on the pressure in the latter stages. Kirk hit the crossbar with a left-footed effort after good work from Taylor and Bailey struck over on two occasions as the Robins failed to find the breakthrough despite their best efforts.
