Boreham Wood vs Altrincham match preview

Words by Joe Ward

Alty are back on the road in the Vanarama National League on Saturday as we make the journey to Boreham Wood for the Robins’ fifth game of the season (3pm kick-off).

Phil Parkinson’s men will look to build on a solid performance last time out against Yeovil Town as debutant Egli Kaja rescued a point for Alty with a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser.

The draw means we head into Saturday’s fixture 20th in the National League table, still in search of that first win of the season.

However, after spending much of the Yeovil Town game on the front foot, with some impressive passages of play, the Robins will take plenty of positives into our third away fixture of the season as Alty continue to build momentum in the Vanarama National League.

Boreham Wood on the other hand go into the game off the back of a 1-0 victory away to Torquay United, in what has been a decent start to the season for the Hertfordshire side.

Managers Views

In a post-match interview with AltyTV, gaffer Phil Parkinson gave his views following our 2-2 draw against Yeovil Town and spoke on getting our rewards for sticking to our beliefs.

About The Opposition

Boreham Wood are currently in their seventh successive season in the Vanarama National League after gaining promotion from the National League South during the 2015-16 play offs.

Manager Luke Garrard became the youngest boss in all of England’s top five divisions when he took over in 2015. Since then, Boreham Wood made it to their first play-offs in the National League, only to be beaten 2-1 at Wembley by Tranmere Rovers, and last season made it to the Fifth round of the FA Cup, beating the likes of AFC Wimbledon and AFC Bournemouth.

The Wood finished 9th last season, just seven points off play-offs and sporting the second-best defence in the league, conceding only 40 goals.

This summer saw the departure of their top scorer Scott Boden who joined York City. However, the club have made numerous replacements including the likes of Erico Sousa, Dion Kelly-Evans, Lee Ndlovu and Danny Elliott, who scored 22 goals last season for Boston United.

Boreham Wood have made a steady start to the season in the National League with two wins, one draw and one loss. They’ll certainly provide Alty with a tough test on Saturday when they welcome us to Meadow Park.
