Barrows the boy for Alty! Phil swoops for highly-rated right-back Ross
Phil Parkinson has solved his quest for a right-back after highly-rated King's Lynn Town defender Ross Barrows agreed to become part of Altrincham's first-ever fully professional squad.
The search was on for a suitable right-sided defender after Shaun Densmore's retirement after 14 years' sterling service for the Robins and Harry Perritt's return to Accrington Stanley after a highly-successful loan spell at The J.Davidson Stadium left Alty with Jamie Morgan as the only specialist number two for next season.
But the Robins will be well served in that area now after Barrows, one of the Linnets' stand-out players last season and a huge favourite with the Norfolk club's fans, agreed a deal at The J.Davidson Stadium in a move that awaits FA and National League ratification.
Sheffield-born and still based in his home city, Barrows, who can also operate in central defence, played in both Vanarama National League fixtures with Alty last season and showed his liking for a tackle in the game at The Walks with a crunching challenge on Densmore that earned him a yellow card.
He started out at Scunthorpe United and began to demonstrate real potential as a right-back with an eye for goal at FC Halifax Town, where he captained the under-19 team to a league title and had a spell on loan at Frickley, where he scored four goals in seven senior appearances.
After moving on to Grantham, he was snapped up by King's Lynn in March 2019, and he heads to the north-west from Norfolk with his reputation soaring among Linnets fans after making 70 appearances and scoring five goals for a side who were relegated from the National League last season.
A warm welcome to The J.Davidson Stadium Ross, as we await FA and NL ratification, and all the very best for a successful and rewarding time in Alty colours.
