Alty on the road again - here's your Maidstone match preview

JOE WARD sets the scene for another high-mileage away day for Phil Parkinson and his players.

Altrincham launch the second half of another enthralling Vanarama National League campaign with a trip to Maidstone United on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Phil Parkinson’s men head into the fixture in excellent form following a massively-deserved 2-2 draw last weekend against high-flyers Southend United at Roots Hall.

It was no surprise to see the names of Ryan Colclough and Elliot Newby on the score sheet for a second game running as the two helped to extend our unbeaten run in the league to four matches.

The Robins will now prepare to travel to 20th-placed Maidstone in our first return fixture of the 22/23 campaign.

Alty will be hoping to showcase our progression since our first meeting with Maidstone this season. The spoils were shared in that game, following a 1-1 draw on a sunny opening day at The J.Davidson Stadium.

Chris Conn-Clarke got us back level just before half-time, following a Liam Brockbank own goal in the opening few minutes.

While we are unbeaten in four, Maidstone will be hoping to improve on a 3-1 defeat at Woking last time out, which followed a couple of decent victories over Scunthorpe and Maidenhead in recent games.

Manager’s Views
Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson gave his reaction to the 2-2 draw at Southend in an interview shortly after the final whistle.

About The Opposition
Maidstone United earned their place in non-League’s top division after being promoted as National League South champions last season.

The Stones enjoyed a three-season spell in the National League between 2016 and 2019 before being relegated back down to the National League South.

In this time, our paths never crossed, but all that changed when the sides fought out a 1-1 draw at The J.Davidson Stadium on this season’s opening day.

Since then, Maidstone have managed five wins, two of which came in November, following a run of 12 games without a win in the league.

Hakan Hayrettin’s men currently sit five points behind Alty in 20th place. A loss to us on Saturday could see the Stones fall into the relegation zone. However, the hosts possess a plethora of goal-scoring threats that will be hoping to test the Robins’ formidable backline.

Sam Corne, Regan Booty and Jack Barham all lead the scoring charts for Maidstone with four goals each, and with all three of them scoring in the Stones’ last four games, they could cause a real threat for the Robins.
